Free food, wine, and a few Harry Potter puns are all you need to have a good time. This time-tested formula was proven again at the Mensa Pretoria Annual General Meeting 2018. After the refreshments were served, the 2017/2018 Committee members reported on their respective portfolios. Unfortunately, Beverley van der Merwe announced her decision to step down as Chairperson after 10 long years in the position. She will be dearly missed as chair. A new committee was elected when enough wine had been drunk and all were happy with the report for 2017/2018.

The new Mensa Pretoria committee members (2018/2019) are as follows:
Kolver Kruger was elected as the new chairperson for Mensa Pretoria. Bernard Grobler will fulfill the PR/Marketing role, Peter Smythe will continue as treasurer, Liesl Kok will be heading Events, Helen Pinkham will still do the blog, Simone Deyzel-O'Brien is the new secretary and membership person, Pieter van der Vyfer will organise the SIGs (as before), and last but not least, Pierre Naude will continue as testing officer. The new committee is pictured above.

Are you a general knowledge buff? Fancy yourself as the next winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Do you simply retain useless facts for some reason? Or do you enjoy a fun night out with great conversation? Well, either way, you should consider adding weekly quiz nights to your calendar!

Teams consist of 6(-ish)  people so if there's more than six, we can start another team! There are quizzes at Jock of the Bushveld pub every Thursday night at 19:00, hosted by Aux Technicals. Quiz Master Leon Botha will test your knowledge about topics ranging from astrophysics to zoology, so no matter what your field of knowledge, you will be an asset to the team.

Our very own quiz team, the "Conquiztadores", regularly participates in and does very well! Tonight, the team won the quiz night at Jocks! Congratulations team!

How about joining the new quiz league? Not from Pretoria? No problem. Anyone who wants to join is welcome.

It might be due to my phone crashing at the shear number of Mensan's on the pictures - or maybe we miss-behaved when we strong-armed some tough blokes to gain an extra table for our party...at the party...mid-party..so here's a picture of a previous visit to Capital...

The Social SIG and New Members Evening were full of surprises - our Chairlady even had a flat tire but that was sorted pronto thanks to an certain committee member's motivational brandy stash...which looked ominously like a permanent fixture in his car.

No letting up in the enthusiasm here at Mensa Pretoria, after our free testing session aligned with national intelligence month we had new faces galore! The favourite Capital Craft lead the way with - you guessed it - beer beer and more...burgers!

A beer was poured....a baby was handled and laughs were...well laughed..all the way from the outside to the inside unperturbed by lashing rain - we social hard, some until 02:00am...legend!.

SAD BUT FUN 

Some time ago I suggested we call the new members evening what it really is - half party and a full-on social. 'Tis the stuff of dreams, pulling out all the stops to show new members, new almost members and their curious significant other's, plus one's or chaperones the true social character of this glorious chapter of ours. OK I suggested we also invite the philosophy SIG - the actual one, not the social SIG after some tequila and we are looking forward to that !!

That was the fun part, the sad part hinges around the subsequent closure of one of the stall wards of new members evenings, the ever popular dimly lit hideout where we felt welcome, were welcomed and served the best dishes - the timeless
